Benghazi landscape charter

Benghazi is located on the northeast Mediterranean shore, in the Coastal plains witch rise to the Green Mountains (Jabal Al Akhdar) to a height of just under 3,000 feet. It stretches between three salty lagoons on narrow pieces of land which separate them from the sea.

These constraints give to Benghazi its identity : a seashore town, localised on a coastal plain, with huge panoramas on Mediterranean sea and, to the other side, far views barred by the green mountains mass. The reading of this contrasted landscape is preserved by a slow and compact city skyline, from only few architectural objects emerge.

This simple and direct dialogue between geographic pattern give to Benghazi its strength and singularity.

The elaboration of the “Architectural and Urban Charter of the City Center of Benghazi” in collaboration with the urbanism “Med Urb” agency integrates complementary components as an update of Urban Planning Regulations, an Architectural Guidelines, Urban Design plans.
