Ghadames Park, Libya

Ghadames is one of the oldest subsaharian city, a fortified oasis made to resist the extreme climate of the desert. On a arid site, the city has been organised in a densed network of walls, traditionnal constructions and plantations creating a great and precious microclimate.

The traditionnal use and management of the land, the great association between people and environment led to the recognition of the value of this patrimony as a world heritage by the UNESCO. However, the conservation of this heritage is complicated by the progressive lack of water resource.

The identity, the history and the culture of old Ghadames are elements which have been integrated into the conception and design of the project from the beginning.
